Zenyatta has long been called “The Queen” after winning nineteen of her twenty total races in the same thrilling fashion — fall to the back, make a move on the stretch. She became the first mare to win the Breeder’s Cup Classic in 2009, and lost by a fraction of a nose in 2010 in her last start. Her half-sister, Winx, is ripping up the racing world in Australia, now having won 16 straight, and is tied in ranking with world #1 Arrogate. Is Zenyatta’s title of “The Queen” in danger?
No. Winx is in a category of her own. One is not better than the other.

Of course, no Zenyatta blog post would be complete without showing that iconic race from 2009.
Winx’s performance against the best available competition even started local tongues wagging with the question—could she even be better than Black Caviar? Probably not yet. Black Caviar retired undefeated with a 25-race win streak and 15 group 1 wins against Winx’s current total of 11.

Black Caviar was another Australian mare, currently holding the record for amount of successive stakes wins with 23 (Zenyatta in second with 17, Winx with 16).
“Sometimes it’s a mistake to try to compare horses,” Shirreffs said. “If you’re looking for a horse, you try to look for something athletic. If you can afford it, you find something athletic with great pedigree. But you’re always looking for the athlete, and I think that’s more important than trying to duplicate a great racehorse, because that’s not going to happen.”

While Winx will definitely go down as one of the greatest of all-time, trying to compare her to Zenyatta is futile. They may share the same sire and have similar records, but no two racehorses are alike.
