Two of Tapit’s foals, Unique Bella and Tapwrit, are ranked 3rd and 4th respectively by America’s Best Racing. However, Unbridled’s Song and Ghostzapper currently sit ahead of him in 2017’s best sires, ranked by earnings. Does the list truly reflect the best sires?
Unbridled’s Song died in 2013, and is at the top of the ranking because of Arrogate. The 4 year-old has won nearly 90% of his sire’s total 2017 earnings. Ghostzapper is mainly held up by Shaman’s Ghost who makes up 65% of the 2017 earnings. Tapit’s major winner is Unique Bella, who only makes up 12.5%, showing that while Tapit may not have sired the current world #1 in Arrogate, his earnings are spread across multiple horses as opposed to just one.

Seeing as though Tapit has so many successful foals, it’s no question that he’s the leading sire.
